About
Hi! My name Is Jessica Stevens, but you can call me Niki. I am a North Carolina Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor. I have 6 years of experience with children and adults in areas of depression, anxiety, anger management and children who also have struggles with emotional regulation and attention deficits. My approach My approaches to therapy are Rogerian, (Person-Centered). The approach focuses on the individual who is in treatment and their own potential, ideas, goals and motivation. CBT, (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy). (CBT) is a talking therapy that can help you manage your problems by changing the way you think and behave. It's most commonly used to treat anxiety and depression, but can be useful for other mental and physical health problems. My focus I have 6 years of experience with children and adults in areas of depression, anxiety, and anger management. I have 20 years total experience with children who struggle with emotional regulation and attention deficits. My communication style I am very soft spoken and bubbly! I am a humanitarian at heart and believe everyone can reach their goals and potential. I provide a safe space where you will feel cared about and heard. My journey to therapy In 2009, I graduated with my my Bachelor's Degree in Special Education. I then became a special education teacher, but I was laid off due to education budget cuts in 2011. I have been always fascinated with human behavior and psychology. After the lay off, in the fall of 2011. I began working as a Qualified Professional with children who needed intensive in home assistance with mental health/behavioral needs. I fell in love with my work. Then, one evening , in 2013 , a college recruiter came to our office and left pamphlets advertising a Master's in Clinical Mental Health program at a college in our area.
