About
My name is Jennifer Morton, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with 11 years of experience working in the field of mental health. I have a master's degree in Adlerian Psychology and Psychotherapy with a specialization in Art Therapy. I have experience working with clients with a wide range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, trauma /stress, PTSD, mood disorders, psychotic disorders, chemical dependency, and family conflict. I spent the first seven years of my career working with children, adolescents, and their parents to resolve behavioral and family conflict issues. I also have specialized training in ADHD, stress-related disorders and PTSD, critical incident stress debriefing, adolescent sex offender treatment. I have been working in rural Alaska for the last nine years, both in larger hub communities and small remote native villages. I strive to provide culturally sensitive services and have experience working with Native Alaskan populations. I also recently obtained my Certified Clinical Trauma Professional credential.
My counseling style is warm and interactive. I try to make our session fun and engaging, and often use a combination of art and talk therapies to achieve this goal. Art therapy does not require artistic talent, but it does help people express thoughts and feelings in a non-threatening manner. It is especially helpful for those who find it difficult to express feelings and experiences verbally. I believe that the client is both the creation and creator of their lives. You are the expert, and I am here to help you meet your potential, accomplish your goals, and help develop your talents.
I treat everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I will never judge you or make you feel bad about yourself or your past, but rather focus on finding solutions for those issues that are causing you problems. My therapeutic approach combines cognitive-behavioral, solution-focus brief therapy, art therapy, and psychodynamic counseling techniques. I will tailor our interactions to meet your unique and specific needs. My goal is to help you attain your goals, so we will work together to identify what they are and how we can harness your skills and talents to reach your full potential.
It takes courage to seek help for a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards change. If you are ready to take that step, I am here to support and empower you. I truly value and appreciate the trust you put in me by allowing me to walk your journey with you.
I look forward to working with you!
