About
Hello, I am so glad you are here. I takes a brave person to ask for support, and I am here for you. I'm a passionate, results-oriented, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with over 24 years experience, who enjoys working with all walks of life, experiences, and backgrounds.
So far, my work experience includes working with couples, individuals and families and teens.
Over the years, I've been honored by the privilege to work with countless clients, on a paid and voluntary basis, in a variety of private and public settings, addressing an extremely broad continuum of varied, often over-lapping, yet very unique experiences, topics and choices, including, but not limited to the following:
current COVID issues; racial inequity issues; coping skills; depression; anxiety; life stage issues; college student issues; young professionals issues; "mid-life" issues; end of life issues; women's issues; men's issues; at risk youth and their families; people experiencing partner violence including dating violence; family violence; sexual assault; people with disabilities; people experiencing addiction issues; first responders; Veterans; essential workers; people of color; people who are "curious" and exploring their sexuality; and people who identify with the LGBTQ community; people experiencing discrimination and bias; teen issues; couples and marriage issues; sexuality issues including sexual health and wellness; parent issues; life-stage and life-change issues; Senior issues; disability and disability rights; traumatic-brain injury issues; community-based, organization, and systemic issues; leadership; fertility and post-partum issues; issues related to stress, anxiety and depression; grief and loss issues; serious mental illness; natural disasters and and other collective trauma; diversity and cultural competency issues, as well as addressing past childhood and other interpersonal trauma issues.
My style is open, authentic, present, genuine, non-judgmental, honest, respectful, accepting, creative, and at times, playful.
I am a humanist and a guardian of kindness, acceptance, empowerment and advocacy in my clinical work.
I enjoy working with all walks of life, and celebrate themes of love, connection, empowerment, inclusivity, growth, and creating safe spaces to be ourselves.
My "multi-lens" therapeutic approaches include Systems Theory, Strengths Perspective, Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive-Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.
I utilize a creative, holistic approach to treatment, encouraging my clients to explore various relaxation techniques, unique to their preferences.
My role on your journey is to act simply as a supportive, gentle guide, to "meet you where you are at," explore options, empower, and encourage you along your path.
I believe in creating a sense of "sitting at the kitchen table" effect with my clients, as if you're having a conversation with the "therapist next door."
My goal for you by the end of our time together is that you will experience increased optimism and hope about your future, and your belief in yourself to manage life's challenges.
A few tid-bits about me, I'm the mother to two fun and playful children, ages 13 and 9, am married to my husband for almost 20 years, and live in southwest VA.
I love reading, working out, learning new things, meeting new people, spending time with friends, volunteering for my community, taking long walks in nature, and going on adventures with my family.
I enjoy the shy but friendly company of my Betta fish, "Frickles," while I do my Telehealth work with you.
I've always loved people of all ages and stages in life, so my passion is getting to do a job that I truly love.
Thank you for your time. When you are ready to reach out, I'll be here.
Jenny
