About

Hi there, I'm Jean-Marie! Hello, and welcome to therapy. My name is Jean-Marie Schweizer, and I am a licensed professional counselor working statewide in Texas via telehealth. I work with adults of all ages and specialize in anxiety, stress, depression, trauma, and many other concerns. I am passionate about supporting my clients through challenges to rediscover their strengths and abilities to experience growth and healing in their lives. My approach My approach to therapy varies based on the needs of each client with whom I work. I most frequently use an existential-humanistic approach emphasizing person-centered and non-directive counseling, using Internal Family Systems (IFS) as a non-pathologizing approach. I also integrate positive psychology, narrative counseling, and feminist theories (looking at the dynamics between oppression and privilege), primarily focusing on strength-based counseling. My focus My style and approach are a good fit for adults of all ages who may be dealing with life transitions and social pressures, often taking the form of anxiety, depression, stress, and trauma. I work with my clients to rediscover and develop the skills and strengths to learn to feel better about themselves and create a more positive outlook on life. My communication style My communication style is calm, accommodating, personable, and patient. I want my clients to feel comfortable talking with me about anything, and I pride myself on my ability to listen without judgment and much curiosity. I use a non-directive style, allowing my clients to take the lead while I work with them on exploring their inner world for greater well-being. My journey to therapy I decided to become a therapist when I realized in seminary that ministers receive very little training in counseling, and I wanted to be able to help people more meaningfully.
