I have been a counselor for 40 years, working in a variety of settings from elementary school to mental health agency, to inpatient hospitals. I have worked with young children, families, and aging adults. I strongly believe our self image is formed in childhood and we make decisions about ourselves as a result of our youngest formative experiences. Sometimes we make bad decisions based on bad experiences. With work, we can change these assumptions about ourselves. People who opt to work in therapy have taken a courageous step toward mental health. I honor that. I have done it myself and I know it's not easy.

I am accepting and encouraging. I help solve problems and will offer suggestions but I won't be upset if you don't take them! Life changes aren't easy. I just retired. I know! I was all set to travel and Covid came and changed everything! I have had to work on my own level of frustration with a lot of things.

Choosing to work with someone new means you have to tell your story over again. You have to work on building trust with someone new. You have to hope that person will accept you for who you are, and encourage you to learn the coping skills and tools to move forward to the goals you set , and push you toward them when you need it!
