I have a love for nature and the outdoorsMy name is Javier Meléndez and I am a licensed clinical social worker. As such, I’m grateful for the opportunity to walk alongside others on their journey toward healing and wholeness. I have a love for nature and the outdoors and I believe that reestablishing our connection to nature and the Earth is essential to our physical and psychological well being. In my practice I use mindfulness and embodiment in the context of nature to help empower clients throughout their therapeutic journey. I’m experienced in addressing issues related to spirituality, trauma, and sexual identity for teen clients ages 14-19, as well as for adults. I also treat disorders that often accompany these areas such as anxiety, depression, existential distress, eco-grief and parent/child relationship issues. With my combined experience of being a licensed clinical social worker and a youth and young adult minister I have at least 10 years experience of providing counseling. I am able to provide Christian counseling for those interested. I identify as bi and am able to support LGBT individuals who have experienced spiritual trauma/abuse, and/or individuals who are going through deconstructing (or rebuilding) their faith. I am bilingual Spanish-English and have worked with Central American immigrant populations, as well as with families whose children are growing up in a culture different and unfamiliar from that of their immigrant parents. My hope is that clients become more in tune with their thoughts, emotions, and body in order to more effectively regulate their nervous system, thus promoting a more mindful, embodied, and connected way of life. Together we can work towards self-acceptance, spiritual peace, and conflict resolution within family relationships. I look forward to working with you and commend you for taking this step towards wholeness.
