About

I graduated from the University of North Carolina Wilmington with my bachelors in Social Work in 2006. In 2013, I graduated from Webster University with my masters degree in Mental Health Counseling. I have worked in several different areas within the mental health field since 2005 - group homes, homeless shelters, domestic violence shelters, foster care/adoptions, community-based (meaning within homes, addressing familial needs). In particular, I have found that I have worked well with folks age 12-20, couples counseling, identity needs, relationship problems, marriage and family counseling, depression and some addictions. I also do well with men and in particular, fatherhood. Since 2017, I have worked in a supervisory position within my company and provide supervision to folks working on their associates license and to interns that we bring on. I have a wealth of knowledge that I operate from. In my practice, I tend to be more "exploratory" - meaning, I don't go through this theory or that. Instead, I look for what I call "roots". What is the base of this thinking pattern, what has your history taught you about yourself, relationships, etc? How can we improve modes of communications amongst you and loved ones so that you and your's can have your needs met? I do utilize the 5 Love Languages a lot and have found it to be extremely helpful in getting needs met amongst couples and family members.

I am a Christian - but I tend to lean fairly liberal. I feel very comfortable working with the LGBTQ+ population, Latinx and Black-Americans. I come from a place of unconditional regard - meaning, there are no judgements. There is no "Jason's way". I will rarely advise and in fact, it is not my place to do so. I have often found just having a non-judgemental ear and being present has helped prior people I served out through the roughest of times. I create a safe place with whomever is speaking with me and hold to confidentiality.
