About
Hi there, I'm Jason! Jason Newman LMFT #100091 Hi I am a mental health provider who is trained in DBT. I specialize in working with adolescents and young adults through transitions, depression, anxiety, or gender identity exploration. I also specialize in LGBT/Queer individuals and provide gender-affirming care. I work on teaching skills from DBT with a mixture of narrative to change how we view things in life. My approach I work primarily with DBT but also you are the driver of this car on this journey. So if you do not like DBT you are the expert and I follow you. I also include a trauma-informed lens and provide many narrative techniques because this modality is less about blaming a person for a problem but looking at how to externalize it. I also combine some CBT elements and really try to do what the client responds best to in session. My focus I typically see adolescents, young adults (18-40), people in transitions, depression, anxiety, ADHD, panic, gender dysphoria, LGBT/queer, adjustments, relationship issues, couples, trauma, OCD, impulse control, and making new habits, exploring who you are at your core with values and finding a life worth living. My communication style I switch between validation and change talk as DBT is all about being able to do both. Accepting ourselves for who we are and also knowing we can do better and change when we want. I try to be direct and offer interpretations. I am warm caring and genuine. People tend to feel safe and disarmed when talking with me due to my nonjudgemental stance. My journey to mental healthcare I had a pretty bad therapist as a teen and it was what motivated me to make sure people were not so judgmental or causing harm to their clients. I love seeing clients grow and make movement toward their goals. I have a desire to see my clients doing well and able to achieve things they may have not believed to be possible before.
