Jarad Ringer, LCSW, received his BA in Political Science from Rutgers University in 1999 and his MS in Social Work from Columbia University in 2002. He was also a former student in the doctoral program in Social Welfare at the City University of New York (CUNY) and Hunter College (Dissertation topic was on crystal methamphetamine use among LGBTQ communities). Jarad's areas of expertise include co-occurring disorders (mental illness and addiction), LGBTQ specific mental illness and substance use, crisis work/suicide prevention, harm reduction and medication assisted treatment (MAT), along with trauma/anti-violence work (institutional violence, intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and identity-based violence), anti-racism/anti-oppression work, spectrum of intimate relationships (polyamory, non-mongagomous relationships, etc) and those engaged in the sex trade. Jarad has extensive experience in various clinical settings with various communities and populations; including hospital-based work, psychiatric and dual-diagnosis treatment facilities, outpatient mental health clinics, and private practice. In addition, Jarad has extensive experience in various leadership, research, and teaching roles in non-profit, community-based, government, and academic settings in the fields of social work, mental health, HIV, and addiction. He utilizes an eclectic and integrative approach; including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma-informed practice, Motivational Interviewing (MI), Mind-Body Bridging (MBB) mindfulness,feminist theory, and patient-centered/solution-focused modalities. In addition to his clinical work with clients, Jarad Ringer is currently a Field Instructor at the University of Utah College of Social Work and has numerous years of experience supervising clinicians across disciplines for their full licensure. Jarad is originally from New York City. In his free time, Jarad enjoys hiking, kickball, music, art, film, and spending time with family.
