Hello and welcome! My name is Janell McBoom (she/her or they/them). I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Illinois. I’m really glad that you’ve taken the first step toward getting help. It takes a lot of courage to take that first step.

My goal is to offer you a safe space to be open and honest, without fear of judgment. My approach to therapy is laid-back, person-centered, and strengths based. Meaning, I like to get to know you, learn what is important to you, and learn about the challenges you’re facing in your life. My goal is to focus on your strengths and help you learn to maximize them to overcome your obstacles.

I have experience working with many mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, substance abuse, relationship issues, anticipatory grief, grief and loss, acute and chronic illness, terminal illness, living with chronic pain, and crisis intervention. I’m also here to work with you through the general life stressors that everyone experiences.

I believe that the most powerful tool in counseling is a supportive and honest therapeutic relationship between you and me. No one should have to face life’s challenges alone. It takes courage to reach out and ask for help. I am honored to work with you and to help you navigate the next steps in your life. Let’s get started!
