James Brook is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the states of Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, and Tennessee, with a specialty in the treatment of anxiety (Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional) and substance abuse (Licensed Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor in Kentucky and Certified Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor in Georgia). James has been practicing counseling since 2008 and has practiced in multiple settings, including residential, correctional, and outpatient. James is a Disabled Veteran and in long-term recovery from substance use. He has also been a user of mental and behavioral health services. As such, he is personally aware of the stigma associated with reaching out for help. Be assured that reaching out for help takes an extraordinary amount of inner strength and desire to be your best self. James’s philosophy regarding counseling/therapy is that it is not magic. A secret word or a snap of the fingers does not solve our issues. Therapy is two people talking about life’s difficulties, learning coping mechanisms to manage our reactions to those difficulties so their impact is reduced in the present, and utilizing those coping skills in the future to prevent our previous, undesired, reactions from returning.
