Hello! I’m James. Thank you for taking a moment to view my profile. I have been in your shoes – looking for just the right fit in a therapist! At various stages in my life, I have been on a therapist’s couch or screen. I wouldn’t stay in this profession if I didn’t truly believe counseling helps. It has helped me and I hope I can pay it forward by helping you. I will work closely with you on your goals, while my hope will simply be for you to leave each session feeling seen, heard, and understood. Educated at the University of Arkansas -- Fayetteville, I have a Master’s in Social Work. My professional experience is varied and diverse. I spent one of the most memorable and formative years of my life and career working as a front-line counselor at a wilderness camp in rural Tennessee. Since those days in my twenties, I have provided school-based, individual, family, and group therapy in Little Rock, owned a private practice in the rural Missouri Ozarks, and spent a decade working abroad with American troops on various military bases throughout Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.

My counseling approach is client-centered, meaning I will seek to see, hear, and assist you by joining you on your journey as I strive to see the world through your eyes and experience. I may be the professional, but I believe what you are looking for will be found within you. You are the expert on your life. My role will be to listen with empathy and compassion and respond with clarifying questions, gentle challenges, and therapeutic observations. We will work together for your breakthrough/s!

My specialty is serving individuals who are doing the difficult but necessary work of coming to terms with who they are in a culture or family system that has conditioned them to be otherwise. This often takes the form of me walking alongside “church” burnouts, those questioning or “deconstructing” their faith, and those whose views on life, love, and reality differs greatly from their family of origin.

I am a trauma-informed therapist and am trained as an EMDR practitioner. I rely heavily on cognitive behavioral therapy, attachment theory, and have focused much energy on helping those with sexual addictions or compulsions. Finding the parallels between psychology and spirituality impossible to ignore, I speak both languages in sessions with clients.
