About
I am a licensed clinical social worker in NY, providing counseling to youth and adults in my community for 8 years, in both clinical and academic settings. I am a proud LGBTQAI+ ally and I am learning to be an anti-racist; over the years I have developed an understanding of the unique struggles faced at the intersections of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and mental health. I believe in a person-centered approach, and my therapeutic style focuses on acceptance and relationship building. My approach Person-centered approach; the use of evidence based practices as appropriate: CBT, DBT, Positive Psychology, Mindfulness. My focus My ideal client is one who is seeking change. Willing to explore and learn more about their diagnosis, in order to fully understand how symptoms are negatively impacting their life. This way, we can work together on developing a treatment plan. My communication style I am calm, empathetic and expressive; I often talk with my hands and do my best to be positive and upbeat, when appropriate. I meet clients where they are, varying between conversation, teaching and listening depending on the individual or situation. My journey to therapy Mental health has been my passion since I was a teen. Childhood trauma and watching family suffer from undiagnosed mental illness sparked my need to learn and understand the world of mental health. The more I developed an understanding of myself and my struggles the easier it was for me to understand and empathize with the struggles of those around me. My counselor became my mentor and I chose to follow in her footsteps to become a counselor, specializing in teens/young adults with trauma. My goals for you Developing new skills and insights around managing symptoms, and applying these skills to their daily lives. Completion of treatment occurs when clients feel confident in their ability to maintain their progress and continue to develop their skills.
