I am Jake DeFee who is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in both Arkansas and Louisiana. I graduated from Liberty University in 2013 with a Masters in Professional Counseling. I have worked in both a mental health clinic and private setting. In these two settings I have seen a wide range of mental health challenges that people face. The reason I started in this field and continue to work in it is because of the enjoyment of people. I view talk therapy as a way of identifying problems and working on solutions with people through the use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, ACT, and Motivational Interviewing. Therapy involves working together with people who take a risk and are looking for help. I have worked with a wide range of ages and various issues that range from anxiety, depression, and trauma. I have found it rewarding to help people cope through tragedies of unexpected health issues, chronic pain, and death of a loved one. In a world that is constantly changing and we are expected to either “sink or swim”, it is good to have someone on your side that can direct you to land; possibly even throw a life preserver. I am passionate about helping others meet their own personal goals, grow spiritually, and to live a life that they feel is reaching their full potential. In doing this, it involves talking about the difficult and not avoiding what we often shove to the back of our minds. Change is possible, but it takes work and you don’t have to do it alone.
