About
Welcome! I'm so glad that you're considering therapy and happened across my page. It is an immense gift to be able to sit with individuals like you, as you increase your skills and self-awareness in service of the life you want to live. Read on to see if you think I would be a good fit!
I received a Master's of Education in Community Counseling from Seattle University, followed by additional coursework in substance use treatment. I am a mental health counselor licensed in Washington state, with over three years of experience working with adults of all ages in a range of settings. I have worked with a diverse clientele, including those experiencing anxiety, trauma, co-occurring disorders, homelessness, relationship issues, significant life changes, and more. I tend to work best with clients who are newer to therapy, but I also believe that we can learn something new about ourselves at any point in the journey. I am trained in evidenced-based treatments, including Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Motivational Interviewing; I also have experience teaching Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO-DBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) concepts and skills to clients. I have some experience in sex education, the LGBTQIA+ community, and body image/eating disorders; I identify as sex and body positive, and as a queer- and sex worker-friendly therapist. As a former English major, I'm fond of vivid imagery and metaphor. Any kind of meaning-making is interesting to me, and I like to add creative interventions to the mix, including art, music, and even tarot, as appropriate. First and foremost, I am a client-centered therapist; as such, I draw on these and other modalities flexibly, in order to best serve your individual needs.
I view therapy as a voyage of discovery, with you as the captain. My role is to support you as you navigate the sometimes tempestuous seas of life. The outcome of your treatment depends largely on your willingness to engage in this process, which may, at times, result in considerable discomfort. Remembering unpleasant events and becoming aware of feelings attached to those events can bring on strong feelings of anger, depression, anxiety, et cetera. There are no miracle cures. I cannot promise that your behavior or circumstances will change. I can promise to support you and do my very best to understand you and the patterns that show up in your life, as well as to help you clarify what it is that you want for yourself.
If you think I would be a good collaborator, I look forward to hearing from you!
