About

Since you are reading this, you seem to be at least thinking about starting or re-starting therapy, which can be scary for anyone. As you may know, the most important thing in successful psychotherapy is finding/having a therapist with whom you feel comfortable. If you are interested in working with me and don't want to schedule an appointment yet, please tell our support staff that you'd like to talk to me on the telephone first and I can text you to set up a call. It can take a few therapy sessions before someone knows they feel comfortable with their therapist. Whether your issues are smaller or larger, you are important. I will tell you if I think I can help you, which is usually the case, or if I would recommend someone else. I have 40 years of experience. After a two and a-half day webinar about helping people who've been through trauma using the Internal Family Systems (IFS) Model, I think IFS is effective and faster than many other therapies and the best way for me to help people. I have worked with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families throughout most of my career as a generalist, and specialized in helping people with depression, mood swings, anxiety, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, trauma, effective parenting, addiction and eating disorders. The main therapies I use are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy as can be provided by an individual therapist as opposed to a team, Internal Family Systems Therapy (to a limited extent until I get into a Level One training), modified Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Compassion Focused Therapy, and some aspects of psychoanalytic psychotherapy. I also completed training in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (2013). I have a master's degree in clinical social work from Wayne State University in Detroit (1982) and am a licensed master social worker (LMSW) in the state of Michigan. I am a member of the American Psychological Association.
