About

Hello, my name is Hilary Matthews and I am a licensed marriage and family therapist and substance abuse counselor in Nevada, California, Utah and Oregon. I use different modalities in therapy. most often using Cognitive Behavior techniques for a number of symptoms and diagnoses, including but not limited to mood disorders, trauma, grief, relationships, stress, and substance use. My approach Most often I use Cognitive Behavior and Mindfulness techniques in client oriented practice. Often times as we go through changes in our lives we have difficulty adjusting. I focus on self perception and thought processes to help look at life through a new lens. I combine cognitive behavior techniques with mindfulness practice to help ground and relax clients. My focus I enjoy working with older teens and adults ages 16-65. I am experienced in treating anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, bipolar disorder, trauma, grief, substance use, relationships and other stressors. My communication style I like to use teletherapy with my clients. Teletherapy allows a person to be in their own environment or environment of choice when interacting with me. Client appear to enjoy this mode of treatment. My journey to therapy I became interested in a Psychology and working with troubled youth due to personal history of chronic illness, addiction, trauma from suicide and death of a family member. I love working with people and helping them to live a healthy and balanced life despite hardships and challenges. My goals for you I approach goal setting by asking client what they want to achieve in therapy. My focus is working with clients in the areas they want to work. My first session with you I like to get to know clients by asking why they are seeking therapy at this time and how I could be the most help to them. In addition to gathering information I want to establish positive rapport using conversation, humor, eye contact and positive facial expression.
