About

Hello, I am Heather Martin, a licensed mental health therapist in the state of Indiana. I worked for over 7 years in community mental health before switching to online/remote therapy only. I have over 2 years of experience using telemedicine (using video and phone for sessions). I've encountered a wide range of people and handled a wide range of disorders and concerns. My expertise is in depression, anxiety, and trauma. I also work with life transitions, relationship concerns, self-harm, identity difficulties, crises, grief, and self-esteem. I also have some experience working with the LGBTQ+ community. I'm open to pretty much everything, as I've worked with the severely mentally ill, such as those out of the hospital with suicidal ideation, bipolar, and schizophrenia. My counseling style is empathetic and validating. I see you as a person, not a label or a set of symptoms. I'm trained in EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), mindfulness, CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy), motivational interviewing, and ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy). More than anything, I believe people just need to be heard and understood, although skills and techniques are helpful as well. Note, this platform did not have the option to mark my faith. I label myself as a Unitarian Universalist and am a spiritual person. Therefore, I am open to working with any religion and offer spiritual counseling. It takes a lot of bravery to seek counseling, so we will go at your pace, with guidance but no pushing. I look forward to working with you!
