About
Hello and welcome. Congratulations on taking the first step in your wellness journey by looking for a therapist who can help and support you. It's important to have a good match with your therapist so I'd like to to share a bit about myself so you can know me better. I have a Bachelor Degree with high honors in Psychology from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada and a Masters Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Chadron State College in Nebraska. I am licensed in the state of Nebraska as a Certified Professional Counselor (#426) and a Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner (#887). I've been a full time therapist for 30 years and in group private practice for the last 15 of those years. I've worked in a number of settings including agency based, private practice groups, hospitals and nursing homes.
I work with adults and treat a wide variety of problems including anxiety, depression, adjustment problems, relational issues, grief, and trauma to name a few. I have specialized training in PTSD so have had the honor of working with many trauma victims. I also have training and experience in co-occurring disorders (mental health and addictions). I am trained in John Gottman's method of couples work. I've spent many years providing therapy for seniors and at one time had a satellite clinic in a nursing home. I understand and practice traditional therapeutic techniques as well as complementary and alternative ones . I believe in attending to the whole person (physical, health, nutritional, emotional, social, spiritual, etc). I believe that at our core we are all healthy, wise and loving and have the capacity to heal from the wounds and experiences that have covered up our access to those deeper more authentic places of who we are. I tend toward Positive and Eastern psychology and I take a non judgmental approach with clients. I find that compassionate understanding helps clients to feel they are in a safe psychological environment that allows them to bring their whole self to the table. In 30 years I've accumulated a vast array of resources such as podcasts, articles, videos, apps, etc and I provide information and resources for clients to explore, review, and practice outside of session. My approach varies and includes Person Centered, Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioral, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, Emotional Freedom Therapy, Transactional Analysis and Humanistic. The approach that we choose would depend on your presenting issue as well as your personal style, preferences and beliefs. I hope to have the opportunity to partner with you in your journey toward feeling better.
