Welcome to Find A Therapist! My name is Heather Rushford and I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in the State of Vermont. I have over 13 years experience (post graduate) as a clinical social worker. I have worked with specific populations including active duty military, veterans, forensic population (incarcerated), children/adolescents in school, and first responders. I have worked with clients around a wide area of concerns including grief/loss, parenting concerns, relationship challenges, domestic violence, emotional abuse, addictions, adjustment issues, stress and time management, coping with life changes, and anger control. I utilize several evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic, Solution Focused Techniques, Motivational Interviewing, and Mindfulness Techniques.

My counseling style includes using strength based focus, empowerment, cognitive behavioral theory, and active listening so that I can tailor a unique approach together with my clients. I believe in providing the tools you need to live a happier more fulfilling life. I believe that therapy is an important space in which to feel seen, heard, and validated, practice new skills for living, and deepen our insight into patterns of unhelpful thinking or doing. Above all, I understand that the biggest predictor of positive change in therapy is the relationship - one that is caring, trusting, consistent, and safe from bias or labels. In my practice, I strive to be clear, honest, and genuine as we learn about your reality in a manner that feels comfortable for you.
