Hello, and Welcome! My name is Heather Aschenbrenner and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor practicing in New York. Counseling is a personal journey where one deserves a warm, comfortable environment to explore goals, challenges, and desires, while overcoming obstacles that may be in the way. It is my mission to create an environment that allows you to strengthen your innate ability to overcome those obstacles in order to achieve your heart's desire.

I have practice for four years here in NY, and formerly in NC, with children, adults, and adolescents, focusing on issues of childhood trauma, anxiety, depression, adjustment, substance use, eating disorders, overcoming stressful and traumatic events and increasing self-esteem. Within each session, with each individual, I strive to tailor my practice to meet your unique needs. No person is the same, so why would one set technique from a text book be the mystical answer? I pull from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy and a plethora of Mindfulness tools. Education is power, as a result, my goal is to ensure you have the knowledge and resources to conquer and overcome any challenge that might your way.

I am trained as a yoga teacher and believe in the mind/body connection-- our body is tricky at storing those things our mind wants to forget! If it is appropriate, and within the comfort of the person I am working with, mind-body work is something I welcome bringing into our sessions. After all, breath can be a very powerful thing!
