About
Hello and welcome. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) licensed in Arizona with over 10 years of experience in the field of counseling. I have worked clients of all ages on a wide range of concerns such as depression, anxiety, substance use and addiction, parenting challenges, trauma, and more. I have worked in multiple treatment settings including in-home counseling, outpatient and intensive outpatient therapy, and even working with athletes. I have experience working in individual, group, and family counseling.
My goal is to help you identify your personal strengths and the skills that you already have, plus new skills that you feel will help you continue your growth. First and foremost I focus on a client-centered approach of meeting each client where she or he is and developing a strong rapport for the foundation of the counseling relationship. The most important part of counseling is developing a strong therapeutic alliance, so I strive to make sure that everyone I work with feels comfortable, listened to, and is treated as the "expert" on their own life. I seek to practice cultural humility - looking to learn directly from each of my clients about their culture and how it influences each client in unique ways. I have worked with a range of diverse clients and my goal has been to ensure comfort in the therapeutic relationship.
I tend to draw from multiple therapeutic approaches during my time working with my clients. Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), we explore the relationships among thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to help identify dysfunctional thought patterns leading to unhelpful behaviors and beliefs. Using Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), we work on developing skills such as mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and emotional regulation with the goal of moving towards a life of fulfillment, joy, and freedom. And using Solution-Focused counseling we work on goal setting and checking in on progress to show how the positive changes are taking effect.
I have lived in Arizona for almost 30 years. Outside of being a counselor, I have a wife and two children along with two cats and two dogs. In my personal time I enjoy home improvement projects, sports like golf, soccer, and lacrosse, and reading.
Sometimes, all it takes to make real change is to have someone available to offer you a new perspective on your challenges, and to offer structured guidance on how to use that new perspective to make positive changes. I hope to be that person for you, and I commend you for taking the first step in beginning to seek growth in your life.
