First, I would like to highlight your level of strength in making the decision to initiate change in your life and prioritizing your health care. Finding the right person to help you through life challenges is very important, while it can also be an overwhelming process. I want to provide you with some information about me in order to help you decide if my clinical experience and approach is the right match for you.

My name is Gilbert Lopez Jr, and I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Texas. I earned my Master's of Science Social Work degree from The University of Texas at Austin, specializing in Motivational Interviewing, Attachment Theory and Military Social Work. When working with individuals, I primarily use a strength-based, trauma-informed care approach to therapy. I assist individuals with identifying and mastering skills that will help them attain their therapy goals. I believe that a working collaboration during treatment, ensures the client is a direct participant in their own mental health journey. The collaboration between the counselor and client sets the foundation to reach a place of growth, healing and increased joy in life. During session I provide a warm and non-judgmental atmosphere, as you are the expert in your everyday life.

I have over 5 years of social work experience with a wide variety of clients ranging from adolescents to geriatrics. My experience includes providing services through settings such as community mental health, medical social work, school social work, university counseling centers and the VA. Through these professional settings, I have obtained clinical experience working with various mental health diagnoses, though my expertise lies within treating anxiety, adjustment disorders, depression, relationships, healthy stress management and trauma.
