About

I have over 15 years of counseling experience within both the educational field and the mental health system in North Carolina. My experience includes children, adolescents, adults, and families. I will seek to learn what you want out of life and then help you achieve those goals. I will listen, teach, and encourage, while we both work to help you express concerns, learn, and implement that learning. I may assign reading assignments and encourage you to practice the techniques learned.

My counseling style relies on psychotherapy techniques and a client centered approach utilizing Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Reality Therapy. My approach focuses on the thinking, feelings, and behavior and how to explore ways to change acting and thinking and related actions. Also, I believe culture is more than just ethnic or racial heritage. It includes age, gender, religion, socio-economic status, biological make up, and lifestyle. I assess cultural background and I shape my counseling approach to fit your world. Counseling is a joint effort, which can be successful with us both working together.

Regardless of the reasons you seek counseling, I believe a sense of self understanding and acceptance is essential in all situations (this includes understanding how past experiences have shaped the way we all view ourselves, as well as how we understand relating to others). Together we will use therapy as safe place to explore reactions, thoughts, and feelings about issues in your life as well as yourself, practice new ways of interacting and, when ready, to try these in other relationships. I believe you are unique and therefore require an individual counseling approach based on your unique role in the world.

I look forward to working with you as you gain insight into yourself!!
