My name is Erin Slattery, and I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of California with 15 years of experience in the field. I earned my Master of Social Work degree, specializing in aging/geriatrics, bereavement, and hospice/palliative care, from the Department of Social Work at Eastern Washington University in 2005. I’ve worked in many different settings in a variety of roles, including therapist/counselor, case manager, and medical social worker, with individuals and families of all ages. I’ve assisted my patients during some of the most difficult moments of their lives, helping them through the turmoil of intense stressors, relationship difficulties, parenting, acute and chronic illnesses, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, trauma and abuse, and anger management. I specialize in grief and loss, anxiety, and depression. I believe my unique set of varied experiences, especially my comprehensive medical-based background, sets me apart in the therapeutic community. I have an enhanced awareness and appreciation for the role of acute and chronic illnesses in the lives of my patients and the complex nature of the mind-body connection. I would describe my approach as goal-oriented, empathetic, motivating, warm, kind, and client-centered. I use cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused therapy. My approaches to therapy are more hands-on, practical approaches to problem-solving, which positions you as the expert in your life and me as a helper who can provide useful tools for coping and change. The goals of therapy ultimately are unique to you and your situation, as we are all such wonderfully diverse people.
