About
I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist in the state of Florida. I completed my graduate studies and training in Boston, Massachusetts at Boston College and William James College. I received additional specialty training through APA-accredited internship and fellowship in Rehabilitation Psychology. Complementing my excellent foundational skills in psychology, I have advanced clinical training in the areas of physical rehabilitation medicine, adjustment to disability, management of chronic health conditions, and behavior modification.
Stress is a normal part of the human experience, but chronic stress can lead to a host of difficulties. Anxiety, low mood, irritability, social withdraw, reduced motivation, procrastination, inability to concentrate, weight changes, poor sleep are just a few signs of chronic stress. The negative consequences of stress can really accumulate when the demands of life (work, family, health, finances) seem to be outweigh your ability to effectively manage them. As a result, you may feel like you just do not have the time or energy to care for yourself. If you are reading this, you have already taken the first step toward starting to feel better, and sometimes that can be the hardest of the steps. Together we can identify the goals that are important to you and find ways to overcome any obstacles and help you achieve the things you most want from life.
As a therapist I tend toward therapeutic techniques grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). This evidenced-based therapy is goal-oriented, problem-solution focused, and emphasizes the present. It is through this collaborative approach that clients increase awareness and insight, which empowers them to become their own agent of change. People tend to be much more aware of unpleasant feelings or distress and far less aware of the underlying thoughts and behaviors that drive the emotional response. Through CBT you can better understand the interaction between thought, behavior, and emotion. This will allow you to take control of perceived problems and manage life in healthy, adaptive ways.
Regardless of a specific intervention, my overall style is best described as person-centered and strength-based. Meaning that I remain genuine, present, and emphatic, and believe that you are the expert on you and possess the ability to change. As a therapist I have the unique privilege to guide you through the journey of self-discovery. It is together, within a supportive therapeutic environment, that you can feel safe to explore and experience change.
