About
Welcome to my profile page and congratulations for taking the first step toward feeling better!
About me: I am a licensed clinical psychologist with both masters and doctorate degrees in clinical psychology. All of my formal training was completed within APA accredited programs in compliance with the highest and most rigorous standards. This has led to a comprehensive set of clinical skills that I work ever diligently to maintain. I am also a proud Veteran of the United States Air Force. If you are an active duty service member, military Veteran, or first responder THANK YOU for your service.
Over the last 10 years I have worked with a very broad range of clients across multiple environments such as outpatient mental health, residential treatment, primary care, as well as trauma and substance abuse focused units. Diversity and working toward multi-cultural competence are very important to me. This includes but is not limited to learning about ethnicity, cultural background, religious faith, spirituality, and sexual orientation. Should you choose to become one of my subscribers, you will be greeted by someone who is compassionate, down to earth, and of course, a great listener!
Most clinicians develop areas of specialization. This essentially means they have completed advanced, supervised training in specific areas, and are experienced working with clients who present with particular concerns. This does not mean, however, they are only competent to help clients with those specific issues. My areas of specialization are trauma (to include sexual trauma), addictive disorders, anxiety, depression, and life transitions (such as leaving home for the first time, divorce, death of a loved one, separation from military service, entering retirement etc).
Many people ask the question: How long will this take? The way counseling is approached will be somewhat different for every client. That is because you are all so beautiful and unique. I truly believe the most important first steps involve meeting a person where they are with warmth, empathy, and authenticity toward building a strong therapeutic relationship. We may then work together to address your concerns. I may be the mental health expert, but each of you is the world’s leading expert on yourselves. I will both value and respect the feedback you offer along the way.
One of my goals during counseling will be to help you develop a greater level of awareness. Awareness = Opportunity for healthy change. I not only want to directly assist you while we are working together, but also teach you how to build resilience. We will assemble a custom designed “tool box” and set of skills you may continue to refine over the course of time. In some ways, this will allow you to ultimately function as your own therapist once you leave my care. Of course, you will always be welcomed back with open arms should you decide to return!
Whether you decide to work with me or another qualified counselor on Find A Therapist, I wish you well and hope we exceed your expectations.
Be kind to yourself and those around you,
Eric Biscoglio, PsyD
