About
ELLEN SCHERR, MS, LCPC, LMHC, CTP Life always throws us curveballs. You can do everything to set yourself up to thrive, but life happens. The key to making it through life’s obstacles isn’t by fighting or avoiding them. It’s about learning to build resilience. By resilient, I mean having the right coping skills to help yourself on the days you are struggling. I have a Master’s in Counseling with over 15 years of experience working with adolescents, young adults, and women struggling with depression, anxiety, childhood emotional abuse, substance abuse, grief, loss, and family dynamic issues. I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Illinois and a Licensed Mental Counselor (LMHC) in Florida. My experience is varied and across many different settings. I have provided individual, group, and family therapy, in residential treatment programs, outpatient hospital programs, and private practice settings. This has provided me the opportunity to work with a variety of backgrounds, cultures, and life experiences. Like everyone else, I have struggled in trying to be happy. It has taken me a long time to learn how to make my own happiness. The process was difficult, and I faced many “highs and lows”, but these experiences have made me the person I am today. My approach is based on your life issues and the support you’re seeking from therapy. People describe me as empathic, compassionate, and honest, with a great sense of humor. My areas of expertise include depression, healing from childhood trauma, and recovering from narcissistic abuse. I use cognitive-behavioral theory as well as strength-based and solution-focused approaches. I will adapt each session and interaction to meet your unique and specific needs by using approaches that bring results. I can help you maneuver through the obstacles you're facing and would be honored to support you through your journey.
