About
My name is Elizabeth Finnerty and I am a licensed clinical psychologist based in Ventura County, California. I work with adolescent and adult clients statewide via telehealth, as well as in-person in Westlake Village, and specialize in trauma and PTSD, anxiety, stress, and life transitions. My approach In my approach to therapy, I am committed to tailoring treatment to the unique needs of each client. To achieve positive outcomes, I utilize evidence-based techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, along with trauma-informed, attachment-based, and mindfulness-based approaches. I work from a strengths-based approach, encouraging clients to discover inner resources, while developing healthy, adaptive coping strategies and skills to combat and reduce symptoms. My focus I have found that my style and approach are a good fit for teens and young adults that are eager to make positive change in their lives, whether that be overcoming the effects of trauma or learning how to cope with stress from a life transition. These challenges often take the form of PTSD, mood disorders, anxiety, panic attacks, self-harm, behavioral issues, emotion dysregulation, and interpersonal conflict. My communication style My communication style is authentic and warm. I value the importance of a collaborative and trusting therapeutic relationship. I pride myself on fostering a non-judgmental and secure environment where individuals can comfortably embark on their healing journey. My first session with you The first session is about building an initial connection, assessing for goodness of fit, and establishing trust. I will ask questions in order to gather information about symptoms you are experiencing that are distressing to you or impairing your functioning, how you've been feeling recently, what you are looking to gain or accomplish during our time together, and we will establish some therapy goals together.
