My name is E. Penny Jacobo and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I believe many of our problems in life can be managed by changing our own thoughts and perspectives. We are usually more capable and powerful than we give ourselves credit for and I aim to help others find and use their own inner strength to solve their problems. My approach I mainly use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. I ask about what the main problem is, then explore thoughts surrounding this issue. I work with clients to identify cognitive distortions and change them. I also believe that taking the time to pause and be present in the moment is crucial to creating insight into our lives and our problems. For those with addiction issues, I focus on how addiction affects their lives, what changes they are ready to make, and help with their unique journey to the end goal they choose. My focus I am most comfortable with treating any kind of anxiety disorder, mood disorders including Major Depressive Disorder, and Bipolar Disorders, trauma-related issues including PTSD and dissociative issues. I am also comfortable with treating women with Post-partum issues including depression and anxiety. As far as ages, I am most comfortable with adults and older adults (no teens or children). My communication style My priority is to create trust and safety in the therapeutic relationship by actively listening to clients, summarizing what they are saying, and being genuine and non-judgmental. My journey to therapy I believe some people are born to be helpers. I have always been drawn to a profession where I can help others, ever since I was about 6 years old and my grandmother would take me to church where I would see that nuns were helping people by providing food. At first I thought I wanted to be a nun, until I realized I just wanted to help others.
