About
Thanks for reviewing my profile. I look forward to working with you. But first, a little about me...
Just the basics:
*I am a North Carolina LCMHC (Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor) and LCAS (Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist).
*I have over twenty years post Master's experience in behavioral health. If you are doing the math in your head to figure out how old I am, let's just say I'm not a rookie.
*I hold a Masters Degree in Community Counseling from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC and a Bachelors of Arts degree in psychology from Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA. One could say I chose my colleges for their views and they would not be entirely wrong. I believe in making the most out of everything you do and I think it is important to stop and enjoy the view along the way.
My approach:
You probably have noticed that I am not very formal and I tend to lean more toward a relaxed approach to therapy. Being in the behavioral health field as long as I have, it is only natural for me to have a multitude of clinical experience with many evidenced based treatment modalities and to have worked with people from a variety of backgrounds and with many diagnoses. I'm not going to bore you by listing all these. I would rather find out what your needs are and then base our plan of treatment around you. My approach is to listen to your goals and expectations of therapy and to work together to reach them. But I must warn you... I'm not going to do the work for you. I will be encouraging, give you the tools you need and teach you the skills, but you will have to do the work. My ultimate goal for you not to need therapy.
I hope to meet you soon, but if not, good luck on your journey.
