Hi, my name is Dustin Shivar. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, licensed in North Carolina and Colorado, with over 10 years of experience serving adults, children/adolescents, couples, and families in a variety of practice settings over my progressive career in human services. I attended East Carolina University, and possess a Master of Social Work degree from that institution earned in 2011. I have worked with patients struggling with an array of stressors including depression, anxiety, relationship impairments, family conflicts, bipolar disorder, OCD, and ADHD. Additional areas of expertise include: grief/loss, adjustment/transition, building motivation, communication, relaxation, and improving self-concept.

My counseling style is respectful, empathetic, interactive, engaging, direct, straight-forward, and practical while emphasizing the personal strengths, talents, wisdom, and self-awareness of the patient to succeed at using these strengths to resolve one's own personal difficulties. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, while not subscribing to established stereotypes. My therapeutic approach combines aspects of cognitive-behavioral, person-centered, solution-focused, and reality based treatment modalities. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.

The unfortunate but very real reality is that we all struggle, it takes true courage and resiliency to seek a more fulfilling and happier life. To take the first steps towards addressing one's own personal conflicts requires a significant amount of bravery and fortitude. I want to personally commend you on taking such a step at this time.
