About

Greetings and Welcome! It is an honor to meet you. I am William – I have seen a lot of life as a “bit past middle-age,” married, father of two, past businessman, researcher, educator, social justice advocate, and counselor. I love life and have – as my wife often says – have more fun than is fair, especially given some of my decisions along the way, and guess what…..she is right.
It took me a pretty long time to learn how to live my two core values of faith and service. I have faith in others and seek to serve people any way I can. I used to tell others that, “about 25 years ago I crashed and burned in glorious fashion;” however, a patient at a residential treatment center I was working in one weekend said, “Mr. William, you need to stop saying you “crashed and burned” because you did not burn. Yes, you crashed, but you did not burn. You used the opportunities presented you and rebuild your life and now you can give back.” Since then, I have been careful to only say I crashed 25 years ago. Looking back on that time in my life, I can never thank a counselor enough for helping me see new ways to live and that I can allow others to help me embrace new opportunities.
Over these 25 years, I have gone from flipping burgers to completing a dual PhD program in sociology and counseling, and becoming a LPC, so I appreciate struggle and life change.
My previous life was in large agriculture and have since been a disability policy researcher, university lecturer, sociology teacher, and a therapist who has worked with adjustment to disabling conditions, sexual orientation, addiction, ADHD, relationship struggles, and collateral consequences from being directly impacted by the criminal justice system.
Recently, a client gave me one of my most cherished compliments by saying I was the most non-judgmental people they had even met. That captures my goal as a counselor – to meet anyone where they are and help them move to a new place in their life.
Because of my journey in life, I tend to self-disclose a bit if it seems to have therapeutic benefit, so I am willing to risk a bit of self-disclosure if it will help us connect in a way that helps you.
You? It takes courage to seek for a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you.
I look forward to working with you as we meet and work together so you can live to your full God-given potential.

Giving you my best,

William
