Dr. Umieca N. Hankton is a proud native of New Orleans, a city that cultivated her passion for supporting and empowering people to live their best lives. Dr. Hankton obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology from the University of Mississippi in 2014 and completed her postdoctoral residency at the University of Memphis in 2015. She is a clinical psychologist, licensed in Louisiana and Tennessee, with 10+ years of counseling experience.
She is the founder and Clinical Director of UNH Counseling Services, LLC. While her private behavioral health agency offers various mental health and wellness services to all, she specifically focuses on the health and well-being of women of color, individuals who identify as LGBTQ+, clergy, and college students. Dr. Hankton also has extensive experience working with polyamorous and same-gender-loving couples and facilitates several wellness groups. Groups-to-date includes Living with anxiety, Self-care matters, Women of Color Support, Queer People of Color Support, Stress management, Anger management for Veterans, and Surviving Grief.
She provides community seminars and workshops related to (but not limited to) mental health disparities, suicide prevention, self-care, sexual consent, assertive communication, cultural humility, and strengthening interpersonal and romantic connectedness. Dr. Hankton also provides a multitude of psychological evaluations such as evaluations for bariatric surgery and clergy evaluations. She remains committed to making mental health services affordable, equitable, and more accessible to underrepresented populations. Dr. Hankton partners with non-profit and faith-based agencies to offer wellness seminars to their staff and the community.
