About

Hello!

My name is Dr. Tamela Sadler, and I am a licensed psychologist in both Tennessee and Hawaii. I am originally from Tennessee and completed my doctoral-level graduate training at Tennessee State University in 2008. I earned my doctorate in counseling psychology and completed my post-doctoral residency in 2009. Much of my work has surrounded the evaluation and treatment of various mental health disorders and concerns, including ADHD, social skills development, depression, anxiety, anger management, family conflict, behavior changes following traumatic brain injury, self-esteem, trauma, stress reduction, adjustment or improvement to medical conditions and life transitions. I work with individuals on medical goals such as lowering A1C levels, managing hypertension, adapting to CPAP equipment and weight loss.

My goal is to provide clients with a safe space where they feel understood and are able to work towards reaching their personal goals. This includes using a collaborative, nonjudgmental approach with my clients. I consider you to be the expert on your own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, while my primary purpose is to provide support, assistance, and a different perspective. My goal is to get you from where you are to where you want to be.

I use person-centered, motivational, interpersonal, mindfulness, and solution-focused approaches in treatment. However, when selecting my treatment approach(es), I consider my clients’ social history, diversity factors, presenting concerns, and goals for treatment. I believe in providing my clients with an individualized approach to treatment that is designed to help them be successful and achieve their goals. Treatment is typically short-term and solution-focused. As you make gains, you may leave services for a while and are free to return at a later point to work on new or other growth-related needs. Severe and persistent mental illnesses have specific needs that may not be suitable for this therapy modality. Referrals may be made to other providers at my discretion as those needs outside of my scope of practice emerge.

Congratulations on seeking support for yourself! Participating in therapy is a type of self-care that works to provide a supportive environment in which to grow and become a better version of yourself. I look forward to supporting you on your journey toward improved mental health and overall well-being.

Warmly,
Dr. Tamela Sadler
