About
Hi there, I'm Nancy! Hi there! I am Dr. Nancy Doi, a licensed Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years of experience providing therapy to a wide variety of clientele. I believe in approaching therapy with respect for the suffering each individual has experienced and the hopes of providing some relief from these difficult emotions and resulting behaviors. I hope to accomplish this through fostering a recognition of how these emotions may have served as necessary and helpful survival mechanisms in the past, but now may be impending growth and development. My approach My therapeutic approach is built on the foundation of a safe space for the client to process their experiences. I hope to provide a new perspective, along with information and education, to help the patient develop new coping strategies. I believe in emphasizing the use of one’s strengths and current skills during the healing process, as well as a variety of approaches dependent on the client’s needs. Theoretical approaches include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Art Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Acceptance Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) which includes concepts like distress tolerance, awareness and mindfulness, and insight-oriented therapy, as needed. For adolescents and children, I also incorporate play therapy when appropriate. My focus I was trained initially with adolescents, and I truly enjoy working with this population, helping them build and grow with healthy life habits that foster independent, educated, decision-making skills. Over time I have also learned to work with traumatized adults, usually victims of abuse, bullying, and other difficult life circumstances. Members of the LGBTQ+ community have always been welcomed in my practice as well as anyone struggling with life changes. My communication style My personality fosters a clear, calm, communication style emphasizing warmth and acceptance. I also enjoy utilizing stories and metaphors.
