My name is Michael Villanueva, and I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist in California. I have worked as a professor at a university, providing research and clinical services on remote tribal lands, served as a combat clinical psychologist in Afghanistan, and implemented analysis with computational neuroscientists at UC San Diego on the effects of psychedelics on the human brain. I provide individual talk psychotherapy (including telehealth) in my office. In my lab, I record and analyze my clients’ EEG (i.e., brainwaves), which provides me with a personalized approach to Neurotherapy (neurofeedback ) training to address my clients’ symptoms and complaints. Over the past 25 years, I have worked with clients of all ages, occupations, and nearly all socio-economic statuses. While there is no “typical” client with whom I work, my most satisfied clients share commonalities: First, despite their levels of depression or anxiety, they felt or knew they could be “better.” Second, they took our work and practiced outside the office. Third, intuiting what they had been doing did not work; they were open to reframing events and perceptions. Furthermore, they maintained motivation through difficult times. Most of us do not want to change, but we could do with a few needed transformations.
