About

Hi there, I'm Mark! My name is Mark Schlutsmeyer and I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist practicing full-time in Yuba City, California, and part-time throughout California via teletherapy. I work with adults on issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, shame, self-harm, addiction/substance use, grief, spirituality issues, and relationship problems. I especially enjoy working with adults who have co-occurring mental health and addiction/substance use issues. My approach I strongly recommend scheduling a free 15-minute consultation call with me for more information and to determine if my therapy approach might be a good fit for you. My view is that our work in therapy needs to take place on two levels. The first is the practical level and it involves learning and applying tools, strategies, and skills to improve day-to-day living, develop healthy routines, build self-compassion, and interrupt unhealthy habit loops. The second is a deeper level of work that involves transforming core beliefs, addressing trauma issues and emotional blocks that hinder growth, and developing a life narrative that is consistent with your core values and gifts. I use an integrated approach to help with success at both levels of work. The practical level is addressed through skills training, as well as strategies from cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavior therapy. The deeper level is addressed by a trauma-informed approach that integrates aspects of acceptance and commitment therapy, narrative therapy, and experiential/humanistic therapies. I also believe strongly in the importance of your spiritual, religious, and cultural frameworks, and I integrate those frameworks into therapy when appropriate. My focus I have worked for the past 18 years in a community mental healthcare setting with clients from many backgrounds and with many different presenting problems.
