About
Hi there, I'm Marilyn! My name is Marilyn Terhune-Young and I am a Licensed Marriage, Family Therapist (LMFT) based in Grass Valley, California and working with clients statewide via telehealth. I have 20 plus years of experience specializing in issues of anxiety, depression, self-esteem, relationship issues and the over-all life challenges. My approach is humanistic and client-centered. My approach My background is psychodynamic and my approach insight-oriented. I believe looking at the past is helpful as it relates to understanding current life problems and working toward a more positive future. My approach varies depending on the needs of the client. Interventions may include narrative therapy, creative arts therapy, and mindfulness. . My focus I enjoy working with people who are seeking purpose and a deeper meaning in their lives. Initial problems may include relationship issues, stress in the workplace, self-esteem and depression, past abuse or trauma or a general feeling of emptiness in life. I am a good fit for clients who question their old ways of doing things and who are looking for new insights and self-actualization. My communication style My communication style is low-key and open. You will find that I am empathetic and a good listener. I want to provide a caring and non-judgmental environment where clients are comfortable sharing anything. My journey to therapy My first experience in therapy occurred when I was going through a time of crisis in my own life, with life-disrupting symptoms of anxiety and depression. With the help of a therapist I learned to manage my stress and anxiety and to eventually address the deeper issues which were getting in the way of my creating a better life for myself. At that time I decided I wanted to devote my life to helping others in the way that my therapist had helped me. I then enrolled in graduate school and began my training as a therapist.
