About
Hello! My name is Katherine McVay and I am licensed professional counselor in the state of Texas with 3 years of professional work experience, and have my PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision. I have worked in a school setting for the past two years, working primarily with children and adolescents. Additionally, I have worked with couples and families, to help with productive communication, repair relational patterns, and provide strategies and coping skills to members of a group. I have also been seeing clients online regularly over the past year, working with a variety of topics including trauma and abuse, coping with grief and loss, motivation, self esteem, and confidence, & coping with life changes. I primarily focus on working with survivors of trauma, and navigating life changes. I love working to find out of the box solutions to your current and past challenges, by using creative interventions and regular self-monitoring activities. As your counselor, I will work with you to create an open and safe environment where your thoughts and feelings can be shared and you feel supported in the counseling session. I work with you to empower yourself and continue trusting the counseling process and your own thoughts. I am a Nuero-Affirming, LGBTQIA+ Affirming clinician. Taking the first step to sign up for counseling takes courage and I am proud of you for getting started!
