Hi there, I'm John! John T. Sorrell, Ph.D. is a Licensed Psychologist (PSY21440) in California with broad-based training in health psychology and primary care mental health with specialization in chronic pain management. He help adults clarify what is most important to them, develop and apply new perspectives and coping approaches, reduce struggle and suffering, and to support individuals to get back into life and live more effectively. My approach Evidence-based treatments including Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance an Commitment Therapy, and Mindfulness-Based Therapies. These approaches are thoughtfully considered and applied to best meet the needs of the individual seeking therapy. My focus I often worked with medically complex patients struggling with chronic illness, chronic pain, or other health concerns that negatively impact emotional wellbeing and stability, healthy coping and self-care behaviors, and/or have co-occurring problems with depressed mood, fear, and anxiety surrounding their concerns. My communication style I support and foster openness, acceptance, and supportive, value-guided therapy sessions to help individuals find solutions and productive approaches to living their life with chronic medical problems. Former patients have described feelings they get working with me to include warmth, compassionate, nonjudgmental, accepting, and firm to support change, growth, and adaptation to the challenges experienced. My journey to therapy I have always found satisfaction and joy in helping to support another person find insight and to make important change in their life. After taking my first psychology course at West Virginia University, I had a strong connection to the idea that I would have a career in behavioral health. With each additional course fulfilled on my path towards graduation, a future in the field of psychology became increasingly more clear to me.
