Dr. Joel Filmore serves as the Clinical Director for the practice and is responsible for overseeing and developing the clinical department including hiring and supervising the clinical team, client servicing, and marketing. He is a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC) serving individuals, families, and couples. He is a nationally known professional counselor, educator, researcher, author, trainer, and public speaker. He specializes in working with clients around issues of depression, anxiety, trauma, abuse, sex and sexuality issues/concerns, LGBTQIA+, Trans individuals/families. Dr. Filmore takes a special interest in working with couples to help them address deficiencies in their interpersonal communication as a way of assisting them in building the relationship that fosters growth, security, and safety. Dr. Filmore received his BA in Psychology from the University of Illinois-Chicago, his MA in Clinical Psychology from Roosevelt University, and his Doctorate from Northern Illinois University. He is a published author and has produced a co-edited book titled Affirmative Counseling with the LGBTQI+ Population: Current and Emerging Issue. He is currently working on the follow up book, Affirmative Counseling with Queer People of Color, as well as a new counseling textbook, Introduction to 21st Century Counseling: A Multicultural and Social Justice Perspective. Dr. Filmore is available for individual, couples and family therapy, both in-person and via secure Telehealth.
