Dr. Smith received her MS In psychology from Florida International University and worked as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor for 6 years prior to receiving her doctoral degree in clinical psychology from Carlos Albizu University. She completed her predoctoral internship at Broughton Hospital in Morganton, North Carolina, where she focused on diagnosis and treatment of severe mental illness. Dr. Smith has experience conducting psychological assessment with adults, children, and the geriatric population. She has worked extensively with adults who have developed maladaptive personality characteristics as the result of exposure to single-episode, and complex trauma. Dr. Smith utilizes Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) in treating adults and children re-learn how to express themselves effectively and thrive in interpersonal relationships. Dr. Smith completed her postdoctoral training at the Watershed Addiction treatment programs, where she worked with adults diagnosed with addictive disorders.
