About

I guess you’re here because you’re stuck and need some help. Perhaps you have a problem (or a long list of problems) that you are suffering from that just won’t go away.

These are tough times and the times just keep getting tougher.

Adult life has always been challenging. Over 2500 years ago, Buddha described suffering (Duḥkha) as a fundamental nature of life. Given the social, economic, environmental, and political upheaval of the past few years, such challenges have become almost unmanageable.

A 2020 American Psychological Association (APA) survey on stress in America suggests that we are facing a national mental health crisis that could yield serious health and social consequences for years to come.

Under this load of increased stress, nearly half of adults report their behavior has been negatively affected. They report increased tension in their bodies, “snapping” or getting angry very quickly, unexpected mood swings, or screaming or yelling at a loved one.

If you are at all like the thousands of men, women, and children I have helped over the past 46 years as a Health Psychologist, you have yet to learn that there is a purpose to all this suffering and hardship. It’s my job to help you discover this purpose – and in doing so, to finally let go of the suffering.

You see, suffering is an emotional response to physical or mental pain. This emotional response can be changed – suffering can be healed.

How we accomplish that together is still a mystery that can only be solved by working together. You are as unique as your fingerprints. Our healing journey together must be respectful of this uniqueness. So together we will find your path to healing.

How do I know that we can do that?

I earned both an M.A. and Ph.D. (1975) in Psychology from Stanford University and have been practicing meditation twice a day for 53 years.

As Director of a national training academy for 20 years, I have personally taught more than 2200 other therapists and several thousand patients how to use the mind to heal the body – how suffering can be healed. I have also been an invited presenter at over 60 State, national and international organizations. And, in 1996 my wife and I were invited by the Kuwaiti government to come and teach their counselors and doctors how to heal the traumatic effects of the Iraqi invasion.

(If you would like a brief look at some of my early life experiences – both good and not-so-good, you can watch an 8-minute video I created titled “ADHD Mistaken Identity - Confessions of a Clinical Psychologist” where I discuss my own challenges with ADHD as a child and young adult).

My goal is to connect with you where you are, really listen, and provide a sense of security. My greatest joy is to be part of the healing and growth that you can gain from this connection.

Over the past 46 years, I have studied and then taught multiple approaches to psychotherapy, including Ericksonian Hypnosis, Emotional Freedom Techniques, Eye Movement Therapy, CBT, Positive Psychology, HeartMath (a form of heart rate variability biofeedback). Through all of this experience, I have developed a unique blend of spirituality and practical, results-oriented ideas for personal growth and effortless change that will help us find your path.

The answers truly are within you – Let me be your lighthouse and help guide you through the rough and turbulent seas of life. Call now and let’s begin…
