Dr. Amundson is a seasoned clinical psychologist, with over 25 years of experience working with adults, adolescents, and children in individual and couples’ psychotherapy. In addition to treating the states of depression and anxiety that are woven into modern human experience, he has extensive familiarity working with those beset by painful and often debilitating personality and psychotic disorders. Dr. Amundson’s approach follows that lineage of psychological theories of suffering that dwell upon the presence of disruptive unconscious dynamisms, of which our intractable symptoms are signifiers, as at the core of our difficulties. This does not prescribe any standardized or carbon-copy “method” of engaging with individuals; rather, it is a general understanding of our nature that suggests certain manners of approach. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Amundson has published in the areas of cross-cultural psychotherapy (in the journal Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy, Fall, 1999); the treatment of adolescent delusions (in the text “Outpatient Treatment of Psychosis”, David Downing and Jon Mills, Eds., 2016) , and the underlying philosophical framework of C.G. Jung’s theory of religion (in the text “Jung and Philosophy”, Jon Mills, Ed., 2019).
