About
Please let me introduce myself. I’m Dr. Gail Maurer and I'm a licensed counselor who is happy to serve people from all walks of life for their mental health and wellness needs.
What do I offer my clients?
First and foremost, I have a sense of urgency about your problems and what you are experiencing. I offer you a safe place to sort out a confusing situation, process feelings, and access strategies that help you put distance from the past and move forward with a new life in the present. I help you figure out what the real problem is all about. I work with you to develop a strong working alliance and to create an individualized plan that supports problem-solving and change. I help you to get to the root of the matter and express feelings of ambiguity and of being stuck. I help you to feel supported as we work together to find answers that help you rediscover your inner strength and resilience. I also guide you through the process of creating coping strategies that work for you that overcome difficult thoughts, feelings, emotions, and circumstances. I encourage you to make lifestyle decisions that bring change, a sense of relief, and hope for a happier and healthier future. I will help you find and get the things in life that you want most.
Secondly, if you are someone facing transition in life, you have come to the right place. Has there been a big change in your life? Do you feel anxious, depressed, or unresolved about an issue that you just don’t know what to do about? You have come to the right place. When life has thrown you a curveball, I am someone that you can trust. I am compassionate and I work collaboratively with you to get at the root of what’s bothering you.
And finally, my counseling approach is unique. What I offer you is a collaborative, integrative, and strengths-based approach. Some of the ways in which I help are through cognitive-behavioral, trauma-informed, expressive arts, sandtray, and mindfulness-based approaches that offer possibilities for new insights about your life. I help you solve problems and use strategies that minimize daily stressors, realize strengths, and solve problems. I use both verbal and non-verbal approaches to help you deal with the problems you are currently facing. The non-verbal approaches I use – such as those using art and the expressive arts – help you explore your emotions, improve self-esteem, relieve stress, improve symptoms of anxiety and depression, and cope with health challenges and/or disability. The verbal approaches I use – such as talking and thinking differently about your life – help you to solidify your thoughts so you can make changes in your life.
If you have served in the military, I am also here to support you. I am an Air Force Veteran who understands how military life works and the needs of Veterans, military members, and their families.
Please know that I am in your corner, with years of life experience to help guide you to your best and highest self.
