About

Hello,

I am Dr. Fran Weitzel-Callan. I have been interested in the mental health field since my high school years. Upon pursuing higher education, I majored in psychology and pursued a career as an elementary school teacher. I discovered that when taking continuing education courses, I always chose those focusing on students' emotional and mental health and not their academic success and so decided to seek a graduate degree in this field. While pursuing my master's degree in clinical psychology to "move up the pay scale" as a teacher, I had the opportunity to see clients for therapy. I fell in love with the connection and healing that can occur between individuals and found this career path very rewarding. I decided to change careers and pursued my doctorate degree in clinical psychology and have been working in this field since 2006.

I have years of experience working with people who have sought help for substance use disorders, anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), eating disorders, and personality disorders and have worked with their family members, as well. I approach therapy from a humanistic/existential perspective, remembering we are all human beings and while unique in our own ways, we all have the same desires to be heard, cared about, validated, and treated with compassion. With this perspective in mind, I work with clients using different approaches, to include cognitive-behavioral therapy, with a focus on dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), talk therapy, solution-focused therapy, trauma-informed care, with a focus on how we carry trauma in our bodies and EMDR if the client is comfortable with this, and mindfulness practices.

My goal is to provide a safe, nonjudgmental space for clients to share their stories, their concerns, their goals, and to be offered skills to live their lives more effectively, with satisfaction, and a sense of joy. I look forward to working with clients in a partnership to better health and will be there to support and empower them in their journey.
