About

Hi there, I'm Fernando! Dr. Fernando Garcia III, Ed. D, LMFT. I'm a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and also have a doctorate degrees in Sport & Performance Psychology. I have much experience working with trauma/complex trauma disorders and performance issues. My approach My approach uses components of DBT, CBT, and Psychodynamic interventions My focus I have experience working with children to older adults (65+) but I now typically work with clients ages 12 and up. I'm most comfortable treating conditions that involve anxiety or depressive symptoms, lack of motivation, history of trauma, or performance issues (school, sports, work etc.) My communication style My tone has been described as soft and gentle; but also "direct". It is extremally important for me for the client to feel safe and unjudged; however, I want to also remain direct in regards to staying focused on the goals of treatment. My journey to therapy Healthcare in general has always been a top priority for me since I was a kid. Being an athlete myself I always valued staying physically fit but it wasn't until I had my first Intro to Psychology course that I realized how much mental health specifically attracted me. I noticed that within my community alone there was a desperate need for more mental health services. I want to continue to promote health (physical and mental) and fitness for my community and design an approach that is effective for a wide range of people. My goals for you I will help guide the client through a series of questions that will help them organize the details about what brings them into therapy, explore the expectations and goals of treatment, and review the treatment plan for future sessions (weekly, every two weeks, etc.) My first session with you Client should expect to have their concerns hear and validated. I will help guide them through the process and establish a safe and productive environment.
