Dr. Diane Toby is a licensed clinical psychologist who works with families, children, adolescents, and young adults, and has been in private practice as a therapist since 1992. In 2006, she moved her practice to Illinois. She has a master's degree in counseling psychology and a doctorate in school and counseling psychology from the University of Pennsylvania, with additional post-doctoral training in neuropsychology from the University of Illinois at Chicago. In addition to her private practice, Dr. Tobyhas practiced as a psychologist in therapeutic and school settings for over 20 years with children, adolescents, young adults, and their families, with particular expertise in family therapy to treat emotional and behavior problems. She enjoys helping families to show acceptance, set limits, and boundaries, and establish trust with adolescents who may feel "different" from others in the family. Dr. Toby also takes pride in her work with young adults who struggle with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), as well as the common emotional difficulties that often accompany this disorder (i.e., depression, anxiety, shame). She believes that establishing a strong relationship with her clients is crucial. To that end, Dr. Toby ensures that active listening, acceptance, confidentiality, collaboration, and encouragement, are the cornerstones of her therapy. Dr. Toby has had training and experience in conducting Cognitive Behavior therapy, Rational Emotive Therapy, and Attachment-Based Trauma therapy, and uses all of these in her work as a therapist. Her additional expertise in neuropsychology provides her with a broader understanding of her clients' strengths and needs and allows for collaboration with school, medical and health professionals.
