About
Welcome.
I am Dr. Dawn McFadden, Ph.D., LPC-S. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor and an experienced psychotherapist that has been practicing for 20 years. In my 20 years of counseling, I have accumulated a vast amount of experience working in a variety of settings. My counseling journey began when I worked at a Behavioral Health Facility as the lead psychotherapist, later I worked for the Center for Health Care Services as their licensed mental health clinician and worked with individuals diagnosed with severe chronic mental health issues. I have also had the opportunity to work with college students counseling them regarding career, academic, emotional, and mental health issues. I performed this duty by working as the mental health therapist for the office of disAbility for 7 years. My experience also includes working with children, adolescents, couples, and families as I provided contract work to those involved with Child Protective Services. For the past 10 years, I have been in private practice and have worked with adults, children, individuals, couples, and families.
Over the past 20 years, I have managed to wear many hats as I supervise licensed professional counselor associates assisting and encouraging them as they complete their requirements in becoming fully licensed therapists. Because I love educating and helping others I teach at San Antonio College and in the counseling department at UTSA. I am an Alumni of UTSA as I received both my undergraduate Bachelor's degree and my Master's degree in counseling in 1999 from UTSA’s counseling program. In 2006, I graduated from St Mary's University with my doctorate degree in Counseling Supervision and Education and a minor in Marriage and Family Therapy.
I have worked with clients that have had symptoms and diagnoses related to Depression, Anxiety, Stress, Domestic violence, Relationship issues, Employment issues, Career or Life Transition Issues, Disability issues as well as Self-esteem and Perfectionism issues. Dr. McFadden uses an eclectic mixture of therapy with an emphasis on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and Client-Centered Therapy. She is passionate about providing therapy to her clients to help empower them to make the changes in their lives that they are seeking to gain a sense of Peace.
